06 About Me
My name is Brian Riedel. I shoot the built world.
I started in 1998, after studying Graphic Design with a minor in Photography at the Pennsylvania School (now College) of Art & Design in Lancaster. I loved the darkroom: the smell of the chemicals, the excitement of watching an image spring to life in the tray. I was hooked.
FAQ
07 Frequently Asked
On approach: “My work is grounded in collaboration — understanding what makes a specific project worth photographing, rather than applying the same formula to every space. I bring a strong attention to light, texture, and the interplay of design elements.”
On process: “That collaboration starts before the shoot: talking through the project, curating a shot list around what actually matters to you and the story you want to tell, and staying flexible on-site as the light and the space suggest new angles worth capturing.”
On travel: “I travel regionally and nationally. Recent work has taken me across the tri-state area as far as Virginia, Minnesota, Michigan, and Rhode Island.”

Thoughts
10 The Reflective Photographer
Most of my thinking about this work happens outside the busy part of a shoot. It happens on the drive to and from a location, and in the second or two before a frame, when time seems to slow down and I’m deciding when to make the picture happen.
I write most of those thoughts down on my blog, Thoughts. And talk them through on my YouTube channel, The Reflective Photographer.
